There is a growing body of evidence indicating the effectiveness of using infant and early childhood mental health consultation (IECMHC) for preventing and reducing the impact of mental health problems in young children. Per the Center for Excellence for Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation, IECMHC is “a prevention-based approach that pairs a mental health consultant with adults who work with infants and young children in the different settings where they learn and grow, such as child care, preschool, home visiting, early intervention and their home.”
This is not therapy or a direct service to the child, but rather an intervention with adult caregivers to improve the environment to better support the children it serves. As a certified IECMH Consultant through George University School of Continuing Studies & Center for Excellence for Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation, I partner with the all the adults who are holding and caring for children - to slow down, pause, and reflect together on ways to continue and better promote children’s social and emotional development.
Classroom & Program Consultation
I am trained in The Climate of Healthy Interactions for Learning & Development (CHILD) Tool by the Yale Child Study Center. With this classroom measurement tool, I am able to partner with early child educators and administrators to wonder about all social interactions including staff-child, child-child, and staff-staff interactions; verbal and nonverbal behaviors, and overt and subtle cues; and issues of equity and inclusion.
Staff Trainings & Reflective Support Groups
I have extensive experience in facilitating reflective support groups and PD training sessions to promote wellbeing amongst staff and to facilitate the social and emotional health of your organization. Studies show that these efforts directly impact the quality of services from early childhood providers and influence the social and emotional health of the children they serve.
