Support for Parents

Parent Coaching/Consultation Sessions

You are the expert of your child. But sometimes, it can be helpful to have support around thinking about your child’s needs and challenges with a different set of eyes. Perhaps you are in need of brief support for milder behavioral concerns at home or at school. You are wanting extra support as you advocate for your child’s needs at school. We can also spend some time to determine where to seek for additional resources (Ex. Occupational Therapy, Behavioral Pediatrician, Educational Tutor, etc). With my expertise in early childhood development, we will work together to make meaning of your child’s behavior to understand the root cause and make short term goals and explore hands-on tools. Coaching & Consultation will require video recording or home/school observation.

Individual Therapy for Parents

You might be recognizing that you are in need of more support for yourself as an individual.

Parenting is especially challenging because our inner child and the stories that make up who we are often show up in the ways we parent and tend to our relationships. Unhelpful beliefs and patterns that have served us in the past sometimes get in the way of having a deeper and more authentic relationships with others, including our own children. Experts such as Selma Fraisberg, Dr. Alicia Lieberman, and colleagues introduced concepts of “ghosts and angels in the nursery,” reminding us the impact of intergenerational transmission of child-parent experiences. By risking vulnerability, becoming more aware of your own story and the underlying needs you have, feeling through grief, and allowing your body to metabolize difficult emotions and trauma, you will become more regulated and present for yourself and for your children. We will walk through your story, invite feelings and thoughts, assess helpful and unhelpful core beliefs, and see where it leads you.

I am also very interested in working around perinatal/postpartum experiences. Having gone through 3 difficult pregnancies and the aftermath, I am able to empathize with you and walk alongside you as you process what you may be needing during this time. I have been trained by Postpartum Support International and currently working towards certification.

In individual work, I will encourage your wellness and wholeness through a holistic lens and walk with you to address your connection with body, mind, soul, and environment. I like to offer Mindfulness techniques and somatic-based therapy model called Brainspotting, based on the latest brain science to help identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression, and other behavioral conditions.

Short Term Couples Therapy

Although my clinical focus is not on extensive couples work, I recognize the importance of partnership that is necessary in caring for children. I offer short term couples therapy for (about 10-15 weeks) based on the RelateStrong model founded on Restoration Therapy’s Pain & Peace Cycle that effectively defines identity and safety patterns, while empowering emotional regulation and mindfulness for behavioral change. RelateStrong benefits for you as a couple may include:

  • Healing and increased understanding in the most important relationships, which will contribute to healing and understanding in all relationships

  • New intimacy and growth in relationships through greater understanding of reaction patterns, fears, and other individuals' pain

  • A new sense of empowerment and freedom as to how you can affect change in your relationships and interactions

  • Exploration of similarities and differences in personality and gifting, providing another rich avenue for deeper understanding and appreciation

  • Healthy boundaries through improved communication
